Hillhead Orchard is a replacement dwelling following the demolition of a 1940’s Bungalow. The new four-bedroom, two storey contemporary dwelling embraces modern building techniques, energy performance and environmental conscious design. The location of the new house is broadly on the same footprint as the original bungalow. The ground floor incorporates a large open plan kitchen, dining room, and living room, with bi-fold doors out into the garden. The client had the foresight to future proof with a ground floor bedroom with ensuite. The ground floor also features a study, downstairs WC, and utility. Upstairs there are three further bedrooms, one with ensuite, and a family bathroom. The dwelling has a metal standing seam roof, white rendered walls and dark stone cladding. The windows and doors are all PPC aluminium, which are finished in dark grey on the outside and light grey on the inside. A standout external feature is the bright yellow utility room door, which acts as the rear entrance into the property. The dwelling has a polished concrete floors throughout the ground floor, with the exception of one room which features parquet floor, all with underfloor heating, which works well with concrete floor constructions. The property also benefits from rainwater harvesting, air source heat pump and a large solar array. We developed this project with our fantastic clients from design, through planning to technical design stage, whilst engaging with all the relevant external consultants. Our clients had given this project significant consideration, with the aid of their own model making to eventually arrive at what is a stunning house.
