The brief for Torwood was to provide a larger and more sociable kitchen / dining area, along side a replacement utility and ground floor WC. Constrained by the existing hipped roof, and looking to avoid a flat roof addition, several options were explored before settling on a pitched roof, forming a valley with the existing hip. Large feature glazing and vaulted ceilings add interest to the new kitchen, giving a wonderful sense of space and light internally. Existing patio doors to the former kitchen area have been enlarged, creating a spacious new dining area. The new utility and WC areas are a functional and essential addition. Externally the finishes are simple and in keeping with the existing dwelling.
